About this blog

Why a mail company runs a blog called HELO, world.

Every programmer's first program prints hello, world. Every email conversation starts with a server saying HELO. We build email infrastructure, so the pun wrote itself.

This is where the engineering team at Mailprotector writes about the work. We move a lot of mail for managed service providers and their clients, and the systems that do it are old in the good way: SMTP has been around since 1982, and most of it still runs the world. We spend our days making that machinery faster, safer, and quieter.

You'll find war stories from the mail edge, deep dives into spam and authentication, notes on how we test and ship, and the occasional post about a bug that cost us a weekend. We write the posts we wish we'd found when we hit the same problem.

What we build

Mailprotector makes email security for MSPs. The blog isn't a product pitch, but it helps to know what we're working on when we reference it.

Write with us

Most of what we know, we learned the slow way. If you're on the team and you fixed something hard, taught yourself a corner of the stack, or have an opinion worth defending, that's a post. Open an issue on the repo and we'll help you shape it.
